CNAME mobile website DNS instructions for 1&1

It is possible to add the "m" to your domain name if you're a customer with 1&1.

1&1-Logo

Add the "m" to your domain name

Add the following CNAME record to your DNS:

m.example.com CNAME lb.site.mobi

m.example.com is your mobile website
www.example.com is your desktop PC website

LB in lb.site.mobi stands for Load Balancer of our mobile cloud platform.

 

Step 1

 

Log in to the 1&1 Control Panel using your Customer ID OR domain name and your password.If you have only one package, you will land on the Administration page. If you have more than one package, select the package in question to reach its Administration page.

Step 2

 

Click on the Manage domains link from the Web Space panel.

Step 3

 

Check the box next to the domain or subdomain to select it. Then click the DNS button and select Show DNS Settings.

Select the appropriate domain and select Show DNS Settings from the DNS drop-down menu.

 

Step 4

 

Click the Edit button next to Name Server Settings.

Step 5

 

Select the CNAME option. Enter the CNAME address in the Alias text box (The CNAME cannot exceed 38 characters). Check the box to acknowledge that you are aware all current DNS settings will be disabled by using a CNAME instead. Click the OK button to continue.

 

1&1-add-CNAME-record

 

Select CNAME, input an Alias, check the confirmation box, and click OK.

 

Step 6

 

A confirmation page is displayed that the settings have been saved and are updating. Please note that all DNS changes (such as a CNAME) may take 24-48 hours until the changes are recognized by all servers/computers on the Internet.

 

1&1-aRecord-added-succesful

 

A confirmation is displayed.

 

You can ignore any pop-up or scary message. Adding an  m  and a  CNAME will not hurt your DNS. You’re adding a record, not changing an existing record.

 

If you're not able to add the CNAME please send this email to the 1&1 support desk.
